How An Interior Designer Can Transform Your Home

How An Interior Designer Can Transform Your Home

For the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of working in the design industry, waking up each day to do what I love. Yet, when I share my profession with others—whether it’s with potential clients, friends, or often someone while I’m grabbing my morning coffee at Greystone—I notice a familiar reaction.

People tend to say things like, “Oh NO, I’d never want you to see MY house! It’s a mess. There’s so much I want to do. I’d be so embarrassed!”

There’s a common misconception that because I’m an interior designer, I might make value judgments about the state of their home, the quality of their furnishings, or whether each room is perfectly styled. Let me assure you, that is in no way my approach.

Every home tells a story, and it’s crucial that the spaces within it adapt to the evolving needs of those who live there. Whether it’s creating more usable space for a growing family, designing a versatile home office that doubles as a guest room, or considering the needs of homeowners as they transition into different life stages, I strive to ensure that each space is not only beautiful but deeply practical.

I also pay close attention to how well a space aligns with the homeowner’s lifestyle. A cramped kitchen for a passionate cook, or a misplaced desk for someone who works from home full-time, can detract from the enjoyment of a home. By identifying and addressing these misalignments, I help clients live more purposefully and comfortably in their spaces.

Beyond aesthetics and functionality, I consider how to enhance the monetary value of your home. As one of your most significant investments, your home deserves careful attention to maintenance and style. By selecting timeless pieces and thoughtful design elements, we can safeguard and even increase your home’s value over time.

I don’t judge. My role isn’t to critique but to help you make choices that transform your home into a reflection of who you are. My passion lies in creating spaces that not only resonate with your unique lifestyle but also stand the test of time, evolving gracefully as you do.

Why is this important? Because our homes are more than just places to live—they are where we connect with loved ones, where life’s milestones unfold, and where we find comfort and inspiration.

My background in Interior Architecture from Parsons School of Design, combined with my experience owning and operating Bee Designe, enables me to assess and enhance spaces with a trained eye. But this expertise isn’t about being critical. In fact, my own home is far from perfect, and like any space, it evolves with time. Trends change, needs shift, and nothing remains static forever.

As a designer, I see myself first and foremost as a problem-solver. My process begins with asking the right questions to understand what’s not working in a space and why. I then craft solutions that elevate both the form and function of your home.

When I enter a new space, my focus is on its best features—the bones that give it character. It might be an architectural detail, the quality of natural light, or the way a room brings hints of outdoors in. I immediately envision how these elements can be enhanced, perhaps with elegant window treatments that amplify natural light, or a fresh coat of paint to highlight intricate trim work.

I also evaluate how effectively a space serves its intended purpose. Small changes, like reimagining furniture layouts or rethinking room usage, can lead to significant improvements in functionality and overall ambiance.

Rest assured, I’m not here to judge your home but to uncover its potential. I believe that even small changes can lead to profound transformations—bringing more functionality, beauty, value, and joy into your daily life.
